Next, our preschool level for 3-5 year olds who express interest in water exploration in a fun and safe setting, introduces concepts of water safety, basic supported propulsion, and confidence to attempt skills under supervision, but unsupported. Children in these levels may experience forward propulsion, but the objective is water comfort, acclimation to the class format, and fun. In the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program, the students begin with the basics of self-propulsion on their front and back. They progress through six levels increasing stroke refinement and their endurance ability until they can successfully complete a 500 meter swim of all six strokes done in combination. For those who move quickly through the levels or want a different challenge, we offer Guard Start and WSI Aid programs. These two programs equip the 11-13 year old student for future lifeguard training or the Water Safety Instruction course to teach swimming lessons. Guard Start introduces basic life guarding techniques and problem solving skills as well as the continued improvement of stroke refinement and endurance. WSI Aid is a mentorship program allowing the student to actively engage in the teaching process by aiding a WSI certified instructor during classes. Finally, for the adult hesitant to swim, we offer adult group lessons. If group lessons don’t fit the bill, we offer private and semi-private lessons to accommodate any and all skill levels and ages. Tailor your swim routine, improve your stroke proficiency, increase endurance, learn basic water safety skills, train for the swim component of a trialthalon, or learn how to swim all at your own pace and speed and on your schedule.
