Pilates Reformer and Pilates Chair Classes

Pilates Reformer

If you are interested in a fascinating workout that helps you to improve core strength, postural alignment, flexibility and ease of movement, a Pilates Reformer class may be the perfect solution for you! Our reformer/tower units use spring resistance and allow for hundreds of exercises to be performed. Class sizes are small which allow the instructor to address the individual needs of the participants.

The RAC offers multiple class levels from Introductory to Experienced. If you would like help in getting started, or in finding the appropriate level, please contact Mind/Body Lead Hope Carroll-Rizzo.

  • Fee: $15 per class
  • Limit: Currently 5 per class
  • Location: Pilates Studio

Sign up: Sign up for individual classes through the RAC app under the "Live Group Fitness" Category. You can also call the Activities Desk at (507) 287-9300.

Inclement Weather Policy: If the Rochester Public Schools close for inclement weather, Pilates Reformer classes will not be held.

Pilates Chair

Despite the small size of the Pilates Chair, it is a total body experience that demands precision and strength. By using spring resistance and a smaller base of support, a deeper core connection and engagement is required in order to accomplish the exercises. There are times when the chair simply won’t let you cheat!

Currently we are not holding chair classes. If you have interest, please contact Mind/Body Lead Hope Carroll-Rizzo.

Youth Tennis - ROGY Classes

ROGY Tennis Program

ROGY Tennis highlights our focus on the development and transition of our young players from Red to Orange to Green-dot, and ultimately to Yellow balls. We have created a unique ROGY Tennis Curriculum, combining the best of the USTA Net Generation Curriculum with additional age specific drills.

Our program focuses on the development of athletic skills such as movement, balance, sending and receiving, along with behavioral skills including teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship. Children will quickly learn the necessary skills to rally and enjoy the lifelong sport of tennis.

ROGY Programming is moving toward shorter sessions in order to accommodate players who participate in multiple sports/activities. In order to maintain consistency in our curriculum during these shorter sessions, we are introducing new Red and Orange Explorers classes for kids who are new to tennis or need a refresher. These classes are 45 minutes long and will introduce the fundamental skills needed to jump into our Pre-Rally classes. Pre-Rally and Rally Classes are only for those with experience in the RAC ROGY Tennis Program or permission by the ROGY Coordinator (Sabine Tetzloff).

Contact: For questions about ROGY classes please contact Sabine Tetzloff at (507) 287-9308. Also contact Sabine:

  • To sign up for the proper skill level and not by a player’s age.
  • To sign up after the session begins. The fee will be prorated based on the start date.

Sign up: Parents must register players for each session in which they will participate. Register through the Activities Desk at (507) 287-9300 or through your Empower M.E. Member Login. If you are not set up see our Create a Member Login webpage.

There must be at least 3 players registered to run a junior tennis class. If there are 2 players, the length of the lesson may be reduced.

Makeups: Makeups are offered if space in class allows. Please contact the instructor of the class you wish to make up in order to guarantee space for your child.

Progress Notes and Levels: Players will be evaluated on the skills introduced in their classes. Based on this evaluation, your child will receive a form with individualized progress notes along with a special prize on the last day of class.

Please keep in mind that a student does not always advance a level each session. Many factors such as attendance, coordination, growth, development (physical, mental, emotional and behavioral) and maturity level affect the student’s progression through levels.

Racquets: Players should provide their own age appropriate racquets for classes. Please label the racquet with your child’s name and phone number. Racquets are available for purchase at Thrive (507) 287-9330.

TOURNAMENT PATHWAY

Orange/Green Futures
(Age 7-11)
Players in Futures have advanced out of ROGY Orange/Green ball group and have identified tennis as their Fundamentals with technique regarding hands and feet as well as basic tactical strategies will be introduced. Athletic Development will also be highly emphasized. The focus is still on building enjoyment for the game while getting players to understand the hard work and commitment needed to be great.

Green Challengers
(Age 9-12)
Players in this group have often progressed out of USTA Stars and Trophies 10U tournaments and are showing desire to hop on a “high performance” pathway by competing in 12U USTA tournaments. Focus is on technical improvement with hands and feet, fundamental strategies for competition and learning to love the journey of competitive tennis!

Junior Tour
(Age 11-15)
Players in Junior Tour should be playing National point USTA tournaments year-round, a quality foundation of tactical and technical fundamentals, and have a strong desire to compete. Practices will focus on sharpening and specifying those fundamentals, along with the beginnings of a pursuit of mental toughness training.

Masters
(Age 12-18)
These players are playing at the top of their high school teams and are competing in USTA tournaments year-round (playing Sectional L4 and L3 tournaments is mandatory). Players will have the opportunity to do fitness in small groups and will build on skills through some technical learning, but primarily through competition, tactical learning, and developing a winning mindset through mental skills. These players should have strong desire to play college tennis.

Grand Slam
(Age 13-18)
This group is for the true High-Performance player. National level tournament play, adhering strongly to RAC Tennis core values, daily fitness plans and group/individual mental training are all parts of weekly practices. Groups will focus on improvement through intense competition, tactical/strategic competency and mental toughness. Players are ALL looking to play tennis past high school.

HIGH SCHOOL PATHWAY

High School Prep
(Age 11-15)
Players should have a desire to work towards playing high school tennis at the Varsity level. Technique will be emphasized, but most important is the understanding of singles and doubles concepts, preparing players to compete at the high school level.

High School Elite
(Age 13-18)
Players in this group should be playing high school varsity tennis at a competitive level. Singles and Doubles strategies will be heavily emphasized and learning will be both game-based and live-ball based to help prepare players for high school competition.

School Age Swimming Classes

School Age Swimming Classes

Our swim lesson curriculum is designed to help your child gain greater confidence and safety in, on, and around the water. Your child will be exposed to the joys of swimming by a certified Starfish Aquatic Institute Instructor or Red Cross equivalent.

Note: We will use the first day of class as an assessment day to make sure that all students in each class are in the appropriate level. Also, a portion of time during each class will be dedicated to safety issues and/or skills.

Advancing levels: Please keep in mind that it may take your child more than one session in order to successfully complete a level. Many factors such as attendance, coordination, growth spurts, development, and maturity level affect the students’ progression through the levels. Remaining at the same level should not be interpreted as not improving or not achieving success.
