Pickleball

Indoor Courts:

Any of our six indoor pickleball courts can be reserved for $10/hour. Pickleball courts are located on Tennis Courts 9, 10, and 11. The court fee can be divided between two (singles) or four (doubles) players.

Outdoor Courts:

During the outdoor court season, pickleball may be played for free on Outdoor Pickleball Courts 1-8. Reservations are still required.

Outdoor Pickleball Open Play

Join us Monday through Saturday mornings for informal pickleball play for adults (senior high school graduates or persons aged 18 and older). Bring your own paddle and ball. Max 20 players/session.

Sign up each week by the day. There is NO indoor pickleball Open Play. No sign-up sheet on court. The RAC app or Activities Desk sign-up is your sign-up sheet.

Location: Outdoor Pickleball Courts #1-4.

Inclement Weather: In case of inclement weather Outdoor Pickleball Open Play will be cancelled. There is NO indoor back-up. Indoor Courts might be open for regular court reservations.

Levels:

Recreational – This group is open to all players regardless of your DUPR rating. Players with no DUPR rating are welcome to join this group.

Challengers – This group is for players with a DUPR rating between 3.25 and 3.74. Players with a higher DUPR rating can also join this group.

SPRING Pickleball Ladder Leagues

The Rochester Athletic Club (RAC) Pickleball Ladder Leagues run 6 weeks long. All leagues are doubles. Leagues are DUPR leagues so your results will be entered into DUPR. All leagues are open to 20 players and are held on Outdoor Pickleball Courts #1-8.

League Fee: $60 +tax/player/league (covers 6 weeks)

Our Pickleball Leagues, with their flexible structure and weekly adjustments, accommodate players looking for fun competitive matches.

Each week for a total of 6 weeks you have 5 players on one court, rotating partners with one player taking a breather every four games. Games are to 11 win by 1. You will play a total of 8 games and sit out twice. Score cards will be on court for players to record their own scores. Courts are booked for 2.5 hours so all games can be completed.

First week players are paired in groups of 5 players and assigned a start court based DUPR Rating. After each week, two players (two highest point totals) will move up a court, two players (two lowest point totals) will move down a court and one player stays. Top court: three players stay and two move down. Bottom court: two players move up and three players stay. Daily schedules and player rotations will be prepared by the pickleball coordinator.

In case a player can’t make a match day he/she must inform the RAC Pickleball Coordinator at least one day prior to league. If a sub list is available the league coordinator will try to find a sub. If no sub is found a court will run with just 4 players (six games and no sitting out). If you are absent a second time (or more) you will automatically drop a court the following week.

Divisions: (Max 10 teams per division)

You must sign up with a partner. Each team will play two matches in their division each week. Divisions will rotate between indoor and outdoor play.

League Fee: Members: $80 +tax/player/league (covers the whole 8 weeks)

The Rochester Athletic Club (RAC) is organizing its first TEAM Pickleball Leagues. Our Tuesday & Thursday Team Leagues are DUPR leagues so your results will be entered into DUPR.

Each team will play 2 matches each match day. Matches are best 2 out of 3 games to 11 points, win by 2. Matches are pre-scheduled so you will know what time your matches are and who you will be playing. The team with the most wins after 8 weeks, wins your division.

Awards for first, second and third place teams in each division.

If a player can’t make a match, the player must inform the RAC Pickleball coordinator(s) at least one day prior to league match day. Players are responsible for finding a sub and notifying the RAC pickleball coordinator(s) who their sub is. Subs must have a DUPR rating that falls in the DUPR range of the division they are subbing in.

Junior Pickleball
(Ages 12-16)

Pickleball is a game for all ages and skill levels. These group lessons provide your child with the opportunity to learn all aspects of pickleball in a fun and exciting environment. Our classes help kids develop new skills, get super excited about this game and make new friends.

Pickleball Adult Beginner
(DUPR 2.25 – 2.75)

Our Pickleball Adult Beginner classes are group lessons designed as the next stepping block after our Pickleball Quickstart Classes. We cover fundamentals and techniques for all strokes used in pickleball. Participants will learn how to rally and keep the ball in play. Our goal would be to rally an average of 4-6 times with a peer at a slower to medium pace. You will learn how to score so you can start playing your own pickleball games with friends.

Pickleball Adult Intermediate
(DUPR 2.75 – 3.25)

Our Pickleball Adult Intermediate classes focus heavily on fine-tuning your technical skills. We teach how to dink, serve and returns, everything about court position, third shot drops and drives and a lot of strategy. After this session you should be able to successfully play games and take your game to the next level.

A 60-minute introduction class for those who are new to pickleball. Pickleball is a very fast growing sport, easy to pick up and can be enjoyed by all ages. Our quickstart class will help you to get started. Class covers: dinking, rallying, serve and return, scoring, strategy, and match play. For ages 18 and up.

A two hour supervised match play session where all your scores will be recorded into the DUPR App. RAC pickleball professional will pair you up. Our goal is for you to get a DUPR rating so you enter leagues and tournament based on your playing level. We will help you set up your personal DUPR account and show you how to enter match results.

• Explain the purpose of having a DUPR rating
